Does Your Old Hair Dryer Contain Asbestos?

Before 1980, most handheld hair dryers contained asbestos; if you used a handheld hair dryer prior to that date, you should look into the possibility of a mesothelioma lawsuit. Hair dryers that contain asbestos are particularly dangerous because asbestos fibers are directly in the area of your breathing zone during the time you dry your hair. Once inhaled, asbestos fibers can lead to diseases which are extremely dangerous and even fatal. As the asbestos fibers are exhaled, fibers may become lodged in the lungs and they can stay there, accumulating and eventually causing severe damage. This is why asbestos has the potential for long latency periods. If you used a hair dryer from before 1980 on a repeated, daily basis for an extended amount of time, it is possible that asbestos fibers linger in your lungs. This exposure can put you at risk for lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis, pleural plaques, pleural thickening and pleural effusions, among other respiratory complications.
